The Humble Bean: A Community Seed Saving Adventure
A skill and knowledge share to launch a community seed saving project for 2025
Saturday, May 3rd, 2025
2:00 pm to 3:00 pm
580 Coombs Street
Napa, CA 94459
Lauren Muscatine, co-founder of the Napa County Seed Library will present “The Humble Bean: A Community Seed Saving Adventure.” This skill and knowledge share, based on the “One Seed, One Community” project, provides a shared experience that teaches people how to grow nutritious food and save seeds. Instead of uniting a community in reading a single book, we find common ground by growing the same seed. Choosing one seed for many gardeners to grow and save builds a greater diversity into the genetics of that variety, as we share those seeds with one another through the network of our seed libraries.
As a participant you will learn about the importance of the seed library movement and be guided on how to plant, nurture, eat and and conserve a special bean seed. The seed chosen for this year is the organic Rio Zape bean grown locally by Tessa Henry, farm manager at Clif Family Farm in Angwin.
This skill share is hosted by the Napa County Library and will be held inside the library at its conference room from 2:00 to 3:00 pm.
