Seed Tape is on Substack!
Our newsletter moved from our website to Substack! Why? It’s easier and more fun to write, connect with you, and publish from that platform. We’ll leave our monthly seeds to sow blog posts here for a time. But if you want the latest from us, tap the button below.
Seeds to Sow in December
December sends natural signals for us to wrap ourselves in its aspects of warmth; gratitude; family and friends; and dimly lit, twinkling lights. Our minds, hands, and bodies benefit from storing and cooking calorie-dense foods from fall harvests now; drying and storing seeds; and creating medicine from berries, herbs, leaves, spices, roots, and petals.
Seeds to Sow in November
Temperatures are on the cool side now—a bit of rain here, pockets of sun there, and a cold snap in the air. But the long growing season in Zone 9b offers a lot for you to engage in if you still have the bug for gardening in fall and winter.
Seeds to Sow in October
In October we glean the last of our late summer crop of squashes and pumpkins, while harvesting and processing saved seeds of all kinds: beans, cucumber, tomato, lettuce, and wildflowers.
Seeds to Sow in September
In September, heatwaves are still on and off in Napa County as the grapes ripen to their peak level of sugars. This is the month we experience cooler evening temperatures—the kind that fall and winter crops come alive in.
Seeds to Sow in August
As you bring in squash and the first tomatoes in August, plan for late summer and fall harvests by planting cool weather annual crops like brassicas, carrots, lettuces, parsley, cilantro, and fennel.
